Youth Ministry Certification ~ Diocesan Sponsorship

Each year, the faith formation team awards a diocesan youth leader a full scholarship to participate in Forma’s annual Youth Ministry Certification program. The program runs from August 1 to December 31, 2018 and is a combination of online coursework and a week of in-person intensive training. This year’s in-person training will take place September 30 to October 5 at St. Columba’s in Memphis, TN.

The certification program is designed for those who are actively engaged in youth ministry and feel called to deepen their understanding of the work they do. Participants gain foundational learning that can be applied practically in day-to-day ministry. Diocesan sponsorship includes full coverage of the $1,750 cost of the program, which includes all coursework and accommodations during the residential portion of the training. Reading materials and travel to and from the on-site training are the only expenses incurred by the participant and/or participant’s congregation. Interested in applying for a scholarship in 2018? Please email us at Faith@EpiscopalColorado.org. The scholarship application process includes clergy recommendation and completion of a two-page application describing your work and what you hope to gain from the course.

Feedback from Past Scholarship Recipients

As a new youth leader, I wanted to participate in the Forma program to learn how to build a strong youth ministry at my church, learn foundational skills and techniques for ministry, and begin to develop a network of other Episcopal youth ministers I could turn to for support and advice. The Forma program enabled me to accomplish all of these goals. For example, I am currently building a youth ministry vestry at Transfiguration to provide accountability, support, and sustainability to our youth program based on a successful model many of the Forma instructors use in their churches. ~ Rebecca, Church of the Transfiguration, Vail

In 9 years of youth ministry…the list of what I knew I didn’t know kept growing despite a successful and dynamic program. How do I make scripture feel relevant to today’s youth? How does the history of theology impact what we’re doing and where we’re going? What programs are other youth ministers finding to be most relatable in helping youth develop a faith strong enough to withstand the challenges of living in the 21st century? The Forma Youth Ministry Certificate program answered those and so many other questions! ~ Tina, St. John’s Cathedral, Denver

God’s loud call to me to serve the youth of the Episcopal Church is what drove me to enroll in the Youth Ministry Certification course through Forma. Through this class and training experiences, I have deepened my understanding of my own theological standings, and how to apply them to the “Why?” of my ministry efforts. ~ Bonnie, Grace & St. Stephen’s, Colorado Springs

The Forma Youth and Family Ministry Certification was an amazing experience on so many different levels! It addresses both the practical and theological challenges that youth ministers face by sharing tools, ideas, and best practices for not just how to “do youth ministry” as an individual, but how to create programs that matter, are relevant, and are sustainable…This is the most important professional development anyone working with youth in the church can do. Seasoned veterans and rookie youth ministers alike can grow and learn greatly from this program. It was also incredible to be around so many youth ministers from around the country. ~ St. John’s Cathedral, Denver
